In 2007, Plantworks took home top honors from the annual Plantscape Industry Alliance Awards, under the category “Silk, Replica & Preserved.” Plantworks was awarded the Judge’s Excellence Award – the highest in the category – for its Paragon Casino Resort project in Louisiana.
The national Plantscape Industry Alliance, or PIA, awarded a total 18 companies from across the United States in September 2007. A total 34 projects were submitted, and a Hall of Fame Banquet was held at the CalScape Expo in Las Vegas. Entries were judged solely on their own merit against a point system. Each entry was reviewed individually within its category and dollar valuation. Plantworks President Lily DeVos and her husband, Senior Vice President Martin DeVos, joined The Plantworks team, Wailana Lee (director of commercial design); Baltazar Chavez (master tree builder); and Tom Lias (vice president) in receiving the award.
The Paragon Casino Resort project is an eight-story hotel atrium with a major water feature that broke ground in 2005 by the Tunica-Biloxi Tribe. Our goal was to create an interior native planting. The key was to recreate inside the interior atrium seven towering 40 foot to 45 foot Bald Cypress trees right from the nearby Cajun natural habitat swamps and wetlands.
Construction and re-assembling the trees was an over lapping three-dimensional jigsaw puzzle done on lifts and cranes at 20 to 50 feet on site. A total crew of nine craftsmen and two managers required four weeks for installation and reconstruction of the completed trees.
Plantworks master tree builders harvested 30 foot natural pine trees for the Paragon Casino Resort project to create the tops of the large artificial trees. This custom silk project required all greenery to be treated with fire retardant.
The 2005 Paragon project, which went on to receive the highest honors from PIA, is just one example of the high quality work you can expect from our company. We have a staff of experienced designers and plantscapers who will do the utmost to ensure your project comes out on top as well.
