Westgate Towers Project Profile
The architect’s vision for the Westgate Towers at Planet Hollywood in Las Vegas was to bring the "outside in." Plantworks did just that with high quality interior artificial plantscaping and, in particular, three interior palm trees.

At Westgate Towers, floor-to-ceiling glass walls separate the resort’s pool deck landscaping from the main lobby’s concourse planters. Dozens of 24-foot artificial Phoenix Dactylifera Palms were planted on the exterior deck, and the design criteria had specified that the identical artificial palm be in the interior.

The architect rendered a mirrored palm tree to have a matching effect between the outside and inside. Three 16-foot-tall artificial palms had to be created and engineered to be in a heavy trafficked public walkway with floor level planters.

The replica palms were hand carved on the shell of the weight-baring steel and fiberglass trunks. Exact measurements of the trunks of the real palms were taken and replicated.

Painters completed highly specialized faux painting of the color and the texture of the trunks to be identical to the existing exterior live palms. Weekly design reviews by the owners and the lead architects led to multiple revisions done on-site by the Plantworks painters.

The finished artificial palms evolved to be completely unique to the project and match the outside landscaping. The project included a huge Bamboo planting in the valet areas and extensive UV-Rated exterior artificial landscaping on the pool deck.

Even though the scope of the work involved hundreds of plants and containers on three different levels, the signature focal point of the landscaping remains the three interior palm trees.
