Plantworks Receives PIA Awards in 2011

PLANTWORKS RECEIVES 2011 PIA AWARDS

Plantworks received two design awards from the Plantscape Industry Alliance (PIA) and their Interior Plantscape Hall of Fame. Plantworks President Lily DeVos accepted the awards on behalf of the entire Plantworks team.

The Plantworks projects that received awards for excellence were the Cosmopolitan Hotel & Casino Porte Cochere, in Las Vegas, and Tropicana Hotel Espalier Wall, in Las Vegas.

Plantworks provided one of a kind artificial landscaping components for the new world class Cosmopolitan Resort and Casino. Cosmopolitan’s vision was to re-invent the concept of artificial landscaping. The scale of this property demanded wide sweeping uses of available foliage in texture, shapes and forms. With the extensive use of UV Rated Polyblend, Plantworks installed over 6,000 pieces on many of the buildings structural elements including roofs of cabanas, columns and open walls.

Plantworks had the opportunity to work with new management at the Tropicana Hotel & Casino. This historic property went through a multi-million dollar renovation. The main pedestrian entrance and adjoining existing landscape was resurrected with an Espalier Wall made of artificial exterior UV Rated Boxwood. The versatile uses of individual Polyblend components give architects and landscapers a new tool in their design pallet. This Espalier Wall also serves as a functional marketing tool on a grand stage with media screens embedded into the wall.

Both properties demonstrated landmark uses of permanent, artificial foliage in interior and exterior design.

PIA - COSMO PIC 7

The resorts main entrance and focal point, its Porte Cochere, had a nearly underground feel and look. Within this ultramodern hip design life-like Juniper Topiary Balls erupted from the planters at regular intervals in sleek tall steel containers. These artificial Juniper oval teardrops measured 20′ in diameter and 8′ high on top of 14′ columns.

The overall scope included thousands of Faux Bamboo, hundreds of Boxwood Hedging, and over 60 Juniper Topiary Balls.

On the three separate pool decks, including the largest pool deck facing the Vegas Strip, exterior UV Rated Polyblend Vinning was used in multiple areas.

One of the highlight items were six 15′ Charrios. These units with built in lounges were covered with UV Rated Polyblend Boxwood material. Once completed each of the units were placed on the Pool Decks.
