LAS VEGAS, Nevada – The brand new luxury casino resort The Cosmopolitan features award-winning artificial landscaping from The Plantworks. The Plantworks, also of Las Vegas, specializes in artificial plants, artificial trees and palms, and custom artificial plants and trees.
The Cosmo opened its doors on December 15, 2010. The Plantworks was a vital component to that opening and worked behind the scenes during the building of the resort in 2010.
The scope of the project includes thousands of faux bamboo, boxwood hedges and juniper topiary balls along with extensive artificial vines for three unique pool decks. Skilled tree builders at our 20,000-square-foot Design Center created the juniper topiary balls by hand. Natural bamboo canes were also processed and foliated with custom artificial bamboo. The products were built months in advance of the December 2010 Grand Opening and staged for review at The Plantworks warehouses in Las Vegas.
The Cosmopolitan’s entrance features a grand “Porte Cochere” with groves of artificial bamboo and artificial boxwood hedges accented with more than 1,000 linear feet of inline planters. Four huge columns are topped off at the main doors with large artificial juniper oval teardrops that measure up to 8 feet high.
The three separate pool decks – including the largest pool area that faces the fabulous Vegas Strip – all feature exterior UV Rated PolyBlend vines in multiple areas. Laurel and Bougainvillea vines swoop upward 50 feet in the pool area. Over 6,000 pieces of Polyblend® materials were installed on many of the buildings, including roofs of cabanas, columns and open walls. One of the highlight items are striking structures called Chairos that are 15 feet tall. These lounge units are covered with UV Rated Polyblend® Boxwood material. Once each of the eight units was completed, they had to be lifted by crane onsite and installed on the third-story pool deck.
The Plantworks worked closely with the general contractor and builder Perini along with Valley Crest Landscape Development to complete all phases.
